Rep. Rob Mercuri (R-Allegheny) has introduced legislation in Pennsylvania aimed at returning surplus money to taxpayers. The proposed legislation would establish the 2024 Taxpayer Dividend Program, offering a one-time dividend to taxpayers who filed their 2023 Personal Income Tax returns in a timely manner, potentially returning up to $1,000 per taxpayer.

Mercuri emphasized the importance of giving back to taxpayers, stating, "Pennsylvanians deserve to keep more of their hard earned money." He further highlighted the benefits of the program, noting that "sending money back to the taxpayers would be a great benefit to families across Pennsylvania," and adding, "Our families know best how to spend their money; we ought to give them their money back."

The initiative aims to redirect surplus funds from the Pennsylvania Treasury back to the taxpayers who initially contributed. Mercuri stressed the significance of prioritizing taxpayers over additional government spending, stating, "Returning funds to the taxpayer in place of additional government overhead is the right thing to do."

Moreover, Mercuri expressed his belief that the rebate would not only strengthen families' budgets but also have a positive impact on the state economy. He explained, "Through sales tax collection and putting this money back into the economy, small businesses across the Commonwealth will benefit. This initiative is a win-win."

Mercuri encouraged bipartisan support for the legislation, highlighting that it aligns with the goal of fiscal responsibility while providing much-needed relief to Pennsylvania taxpayers. The initiative aims to empower families to manage rising costs and allocate resources according to their own needs and priorities.

The proposed Taxpayer Dividend Program reflects Mercuri's commitment to advocating for the financial well-being of Pennsylvania residents and fostering economic growth within the state.
